Essex Jamboree £50 deposit due this week. (any problems please contact Paul asap)

Welcome Back

We have now reached a point that has never happend before in our Scout Troop, our oldest Scouts now are al  11 to 12 years old, but it gives us a new start and maybe this will not be a bad thing.
On Friday 23rd September we had a Group moving on night, we have now lost our last remaining Patrol Leaders, Joe, Luke and Oliver, the only good thing is they all intend to join Explorers and become Young Leaders in our Group, the other good thing that happened was 2 Cubs moved up to Scouts, a warm welcome to Adam and Reece.

May Day Camp 2011 at Eaton Vale Scout Campsite (Norwich) and "all aboard" for a trip on the Norfork Broards

There are quite a lot of things planned for the year ahead and next year is Essex Jamboree,(this only happenns every 4 years) this is open to anybody who will be between 10years and 18years old (Scouts & Explorers) at the time of the Jamboree which might mean your Son or Daughter who may be a Cub at the moment may be old enough by the time it gets here so please speak to us if you would like to have your child on the trip.
The Jamboree is on for a whole week and the cost will be around £250+ if people have any ideas on how we could find ways to reduce this please let me know.
Most Scouts only get 1 chance to attend a Jamboree and Essex is one of the best, people come from all over the World to attend it.

There will be lots of other things going on so if you want to go to jamboree start paying in some money as soon as you can and spread the cost.

The Scout Section is for young people, usually aged between 10.5 and 14 years. A young person can come in to the Troop at 10 and may stay until they are 14 yrs 6 months. The Scout Troop is the third and final Section in the Scout Group.

Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme. Participation rather than meeting set standards is the key approach and for the Scout who wants to be recognised for his or her achievements there are a number of Challenges Awards and Activity Badges. Scouts take part in a balanced programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit and helps develop their creative talents. It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes.

Being outdoors is important and half the Programme is given over to taking part in both the traditional Scouting skills, such as camping, survival and cooking as well as the wide range of adventurous activities, anything from abseiling to yachting.

The international aspect gives Scouting a special appeal and many Scouts now travel abroad during their time in the Section. In 2005 there was a European Jamboree (Eurojam) which attracted scouts from everywhere, but in 2007 the icing on the cake was that not only England but Essex hosted the 21st World Jamboree in Scouting’s Centenary year, which 40,000 Scouts from all over the world attended, a great time was had by all, and what an experience.

Scouting is about being with friends, as part of a team, participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life.
